Intent
At Carlton Miniott, our RE curriculum ensures that children...
> Can make sense of, make connections between and understand the impact of diverse religions and worldviews.
> Are supported in acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to explore significant and meaningful human questions which religion and worldviews address.
> Develop their own beliefs and values by having the opportunities to ask their own questions, discuss, debate and investigate religions through systematic enquiry.
> Are respectful, tolerant, accepting and admiring of our worlds diverse religions and beliefs.
Implementation
___
> Children build knowledge, develop skills and make connections in world religions using the clear
progression specified throughout the North Yorkshire Agreed Syllabus.
> RE is taught through a key questions approach, which opens up the content to be studied in every year group.
> In the Early Years, children 'discover' about religions and world-views. RE is woven into their half termly theme and supplemented with
child-centred RE themed days and play based continuous provision.
> In KS1, children are immersed in half-termly RE Weeks, whereby children use systematic enquiry to 'explore' the key questions and religions taught at this stage.
> In KS2, children 'connect' and broaden their accumulated RE knowledge and skills through weekly RE lessons.
> RE is taught in a way that is engaging and accessible for all. We use art, drama, music, writing, stories,
the outdoors, discussion, debate and visits to enthuse children.
> All teachers activate children's prior knowledge through lesson 'Flashbacks' to regularly recap taught content and help children to remember.
> Teachers dedicate at least 5% of curriculum time to R.E. through lessons, theme days and school trips to different places of worship.
___
